Adventures in English.
Think about phrasal verbs for a moment. What did we, as speakers of English, do to all learners of English as a second language? Are we really such sadists?
For example:
She puts the laundry out.
She puts it out.
She puts out.
He can’t get up the courage.
He can’t get it up.
They couldn’t make out the writing.
They couldn’t make it out.
They couldn’t make out.
This makes my job interesting and difficult. Probably more interesting than difficult.
